La Pastora is a coffee developed by CoopeTarrazu. CoopeTarrazu is a well known cooperative located in the San Jose province of Costa Rica.
It was established over 53 years ago and has become one of the major economic contributors to the region. They work with over 3,000 coffee producers and employ approximately 10,000 people, either directly in coffee production or in a supporting role, who reside in the surrounding communities in the Tarrazu and Leon Cortes regions. CoopeTarrazu's main functions are to provide milling, marketing, and export services to their members.
In 2006, the cooperative established the Coffee Culture Quality of Life Sustainability Plan to track their environmental impact, implement better practices and create a culture of environmental respect among members and children.
CoopeTarrazu is a member of Fair Trade USA, which allows migrant workers from all over Costa Rica to come to CoopeTarrazu and have a safe, hygienic place to stay as well as healthy meals. The coop is also involved in conducting trainings on topics such as agronomy, climate, and health and occupational safety.
La Pastora has been CoopeTarrazu's leading trademark for more than 50 years and is recognized among Costa Rican producers for its exceptional quality.
